Vista Architectural - North Shore Architectural Designer
Vista Architectural is a North Shore Auckland based residential architectural design studio specialising in home renovations, extensions, reclads, villas, bungalows, and new home design throughout Auckland and the Hibiscus Coast.
Founded by architectural designer and former builder Matt O'Sullivan, Vista Architectural combines thoughtful residential design with over 15 years of hands-on construction experience. This practical background allows every project to be approached with a strong understanding of buildability, construction detailing, sequencing, and real-world budgeting, helping clients avoid unnecessary complexity and costly surprises during construction.
Vista Architectural is particularly experienced in character homes, heritage villas, and bungalow renovations, where preserving the original character of a home must be carefully balanced with the needs of modern family living. Each project begins by understanding the existing home, its history, site conditions, and opportunities before developing tailored architectural solutions that feel cohesive, functional, and timeless.
The studio works closely with homeowners, builders, engineers, and consultants from concept design through to Building Consent documentation, helping create homes that not only look good, but work well for everyday living and are practical to build.
Based in Orewa and working across the North Shore, Rodney, and wider Auckland region, Vista Architectural focuses on clear communication, honest advice, and well-resolved residential architecture designed to stand the test of time.

About the Owner

My journey into architecture has been shaped by real experience on site, at the drawing desk, and at home.
Before becoming an architectural designer, I spent over 15 years working as a residential builder. That time on site taught me how buildings truly come together, which details matter, and how clear, well-considered drawings can make the difference between a smooth build and a stressful one.
Moving into architectural design wasn't about leaving construction behind, it was about bringing practical building knowledge into the design process, where it has the greatest impact.
Becoming a father added a deeper sense of purpose. Designing homes became personal. I understand the importance of creating spaces that support family life, long-term value, and everyday functionality. What drives me is providing for my family while also serving the wider community through thoughtful, buildable residential design.
Based on Auckland's North Shore, I specialise in residential renovations, additions, and new homes. I value clarity, honesty, and trust, and work closely with homeowners, builders, and consultants from concept through to consent.
I design homes grounded in experience and built for real life.
